Understanding the Impact of a Medicaid Expansion in Louisiana (White Paper Update)

On March 26 - 28, 2012 the United States Supreme Court heard arguments in a case (NFIB v. Sebelius and Florida v. HHS) challenging certain provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). In its majority opinion, the Court ruled that Congress had exceeded its power by threatening to withhold existing federal Medicaid funding to states that did not comply with the requirements to expand their programs in compliance with PPACA. With this ruling, each Governor and legislature is faced with a decision regarding the expansion of the state’s Medicaid program. While Louisiana has elected not to expand its Medicaid program, this report outlines previous analyses of the impact of an expansion in Louisiana, the considerations and assumptions included, updates to these assumptions and continuing uncertainties.

DHH Announces Contract Recommendation for Statewide Dental Benefits Program Manager

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today announced that Managed Care of North America Dental (MCNA) is being recommended for the contract as the Dental Benefits Program Manager to provide dental services for 1.2 million Medicaid and LaCHIP enrollees.

Update to Planned February 4 Public Meeting Agenda

The Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) is rescinding its November 2013 emergency rule for outpatient abortion facilities licensing standards. The notice of intent to finalize the rule scheduled for a public hearing tomorrow, Feb. 4, has been removed from the hearing’s agenda. The Department will reissue a revised rule and notice of intent at a later date. Once a new notice of intent has been filed, a new public hearing will be scheduled to receive public comments.
