What Are the Governor's Games?

Louisiana Governor's Games are the state's premier amateur sporting event, where sports enthusiasts from around the state participate in a variety of athletic competitions. With more than 60 sporting events, Louisiana Governor's Games provide an opportunity for competition and fitness for all ages, skill levels and economic demographics. Held in cities across the state, events include basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, boxing, tennis, track and field, girls' softball, youth baseball and much more.

The Louisiana Governor's Games are a seven-month statewide sporting event that involve every recreation department in the state. Experienced sports commissioners have been chosen to run the events professionally and ensure that they have an Olympic-style atmosphere.  Louisianans are encouraged to sign up through local recreation departments, sports leagues, or advertisements and public service announcements run via media partners. In addition, children can sign up through local schools and physical education teachers. Registration began in January, and the events will take place through June. Results will be tracked and posted on the Louisiana Governor's Games Web site from March through June.
