05/06/2008 - May 6 is Legislative Wellness Day at the State Capitol - On Tuesday, May 6, legislators at the State Capitol will
get a lesson on what they can do to help reverse the
obesity epidemic in Louisiana. It’s part of Legislative
Wellness Day, an effort by public, private and non-profit
organizations to raise awareness about a growing problem,
literally, in Louisiana.

05/02/2008 - DHH Recognizes 2008 Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week - The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) has
established a strong commitment to improving the mental
health of the people of Louisiana, and children are no
exception. Statistics outline the challenge that policy
makers, educators, parents, community leaders and
advocates face: suicide is the third most common cause of
death in young people, both nationally and in Louisiana.
Ninety percent of teenagers who die by suicide have a
mental health problem, usually depression, substance abuse
or both. An estimated 3,500 adolescents attempt suicide
every day.

first West Nile virus case of 2008. The case was
discovered during a routine screening of a blood donor
from Livingston Parish.
